Project information
The
EO-Hydro project concerns the definition and the implementation of an
EO-based integrated
service for hydropower plant management in three different areas of
interest:
Canada, Norway and Alpine Region. The most
important
parameters, which are monitored for this service, are: snow coverage,
snow
volume storage or snow water equivalent (SWE). Moreover the catchments
security
is of primary importance.
The
main objectives of EO-Hydro are:
 |
setting up an integrated EO
Based Service for hydropower plant management in close coordination and
collaboration with the
hydropower companies, in order to solve the major current blockages;
|
 |
performing pre-commercial
trials over selected
test areas;
|
 |
refining and improving the
service in order to
bring it to a marketable level;
|
 |
expanding the service, by
bringing new partners
and new services;
|
 |
promoting the service.
|
EO-Hydro acts at global and
local scale by integrating different capabilities and background
experiences, that otherwise would be bounded and restricted to the
respective countries.
The EO-Hydro project (Environmental Information Services for Hydropower
Plant Management) is funded thanks to ESA ESRIN ITT AO/1-4364/03/I-IW
of July 2003 related to the topic: “Environmental Information Services
for Hydropower Plant Management”.
